Restoration of classic car camshafts
A new project, beginning winter 2009-2010, is the restoration of car camshafts using a combination of regrinding and nitriding. The plan is to obtain a consistent hardness over the entire cam lobe instead of using a combination of hard-faced and original cam surfaces. Each camshaft will come with a report noting hardness of each base circle and lobe, in two places, matching or exceeding manufacturer's original requirements.
Tooling was originally built for Austin-Healey six-cylinder cams> The tooling has now been modified to suit other in-line four and six-cylinder camshafts as well as V8 engines. We reserve the right to limit camshaft types due to demand as special colletts must be manufactured for each engine type. Colletts currently exist for Austin-Healey and REO. This service will be expanded to include other classic in-line four and six cylinder engines such as Morris, Rover, Studebaker, AMC, GM, Ford and Chrysler products as well as common V8 engines.
